are the vanilla honey special k not vegan? is honey not lacto-vegetarian?why?
Answers:
I dont know what "vanilla honey" means exactly but it sounds close to real honey spiced beside vanilla. I suggest alternatives like strong agave syrup. Here is something I posted earlier more or less the same subject: (Obviously honey is a product made by the bees and is for the bees; similar to cows milk it is not meant for humans)
Honey is made from nectar and produced by the bees. Nectar turns into honey within their stomachs and then bees throw it up. (yes its true!) Honey is bees' food. This is quoted from Wikipedia:
"Honey is laid down by bees as a food source. In cold weather or when food sources are scarce, bees use their stored honey as their source of sparkle."
"The worker bees raise larva and collect the nectar that will become honey in the hive. They be in motion out, collect the sugar-rich flower nectar and return to the hive.
"As they leave the flower, bees release Nasonov pheromones. These see other bees to find their way to the site by smell. Honeybees also release Nasonov pheromones at the entrance to the hive, which enable returning bees to return to the proper hive."
" In the hive the bees use their "honey stomachs" to ingest and regurgitate the nectar a number of times until it is somewhat digested[11]. It is then stored contained by the honeycomb."
"Bees play an important role surrounded by pollinating flowering plants, and are the major type of pollinators within ecosystems that contain flowering plants. "
I would have thought honey would be ok as it is not an actual product of an animal.
The simplest object why honey isn't vegan is by definition. The occupancy vegan be coined by Donald Watson in 1944 and be defined as follows:
Veganism is a way of living which excludes adjectives forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, the animal kingdom, and includes a reverence for vivacity. It applies to the practice of living on the products of the plant kingdom to the exclusion of flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey, animal milk and its derivatives, and encourage the use of alternatives for all commodities derived utterly or in member from animals.
Strict interpretation is ANYTHING form a live creature is not VEGAN.
I personally do guzzle honey, as it harms no bees in its harvest. The bees go on to live & engender more honey. Honey is very wholesome.
