What is a polite lacto-vegetarian dish besides a pasta or Italian dishes to serve for guests?

Answer:
I made chili dogs (using hormel vegetarian chili and morningstar farm hot dogs) for my superbowl party. Everyone loved them (except the dork that be allergic to soy and ate 'em anyway!).

You might try something with Quorn too. It's texture and weakness is very similar to chicken... meat-eaters love it!

If you're not into the meat substitutes, I don`t know whip up a stir fry. Or do some homemade mac n cheese or a great soup near crusty bread.
Indian food
Tofu and veggie stir-fry over rice. Add peas to the rice and you make a complete protein!
Winter squash is one of my faves. Stuff it with cous cous and cranberries and walnuts and brown sugar if you want... but I similar to to serve that to non-veg guests because it is not intimidating. Most people resembling winter squash. Acorn squash is my fave. Cut in partly, cover in foil and overheat in oven for 45 minutes or so near a little dampen in the jar.
Another one I like is quinoa salad near cilantro and bosc pear and mandarin orange, near a little olive grease and some cilantro (not too much!!) and watercress. That is darn tasty. (cook quinoa and mix other stuff seperately, and later mix it all together.)
Cream cheese and veggie wraps, on pita or burritos.
Pita pizza white/garlic sauce, shrimp (if you eat fish), pepper,
OR pita pizza with feta cheese, black olives, artichoke heart, peppers beside pesto sauce. Any stir fry...all veggies near some
sezchuan sauce or sauce of choice. Add cashews, almonds, etc.
I've be a vegetarian for 3 years presently and one of my favorites besides Italian cuisine includes Japanese, where you could variety vegetable sushi rolls or noodles, Mexican, who says you own to have beef or chicken surrounded by tacos, nachos or enchiladas? There's always substitutions you can breed using boca and gardenfarm products. Another easy one would be subs. You can purchase soy ham\turkey products from your nearest grocery store and substitute these for the genuine meat. Other foods include the classic eggplant parmesean, or substitute it with portebella mushroom. Or even own a classic all american dark with Boca chicken patty, or chicken nuggets or even hot dogs!!
dutiful luck & i didn't mean to nouns like an commercial.
My meat-eating friend in a minute asks me to make this for her every year for her birthday.

Get a slice of tofutti cheese and cut it into tiny shreds; sprinkle on top for aesthetics.
Bring tortilla chips

I made it for a work celebration, and no one have a clue it was lacto-vegetarian.
Eggplant parmesan, stuffed eggplant (stuff beside rice or bread stuffing) zuchini or green bell pepper stuffed with rice, twice baked potato, veggie lasagna, stuffed artichokes, stuffed mushrooms, grilled veggie kababs (onions, parboiled hot potato, eggplant, tomato, pearl onion, mushrooms) borsht (beet soup) veggie soup or stew, cream of brocolli soup, cauliflower with cheese sauce (or parsley butter sauce) Pupusas (el salvador tortilla) arancini (stuffed rice balls) are a moment ago a few ideas. You will hold to google for recipes, as I am the type of cook who simply chucks stuff in a jar until it looks right. sorry!
Tofu Tacos, Vegetarian stir fry, Vegetarian Chili. The concept are endless. I'm a carnivore and eat each of these dishes and enjoy them.
