The website below says March through May, but I don't know if that holds true for adjectives regions. Last time I bought an artichoke I remember paying a lot too, but I love them so I didn't mind. Just net sure if you are buying one that it is a good one and worth the cost.
Umm, I do love artichokes. Unfortunately they are not one and only expensive here but not very attractive by the time they hit the shelf. I buy the frozen artichoke heart... not the pickled in a jar.
I once rewarded five dollars for an artichoke - I wanted it really bleak, though!
Trader Joe's has little artichokes that are adorable (and delicious) - I'm sure I rewarded less than $5 for four.
