Depends where you live, here surrounded by the UK and other EU countries, it is illegal to put up for sale meat with any more than a tiny amount of hormones and antibiotics, etc, surrounded by it die to health concerns.
Horomones, cheap drugs, anything that will make the animals be as big as they can be minus costing much. Some websites I would go to are:
peta.org
peta2.com (if you're between 13 and 24)
And some books I like were:
May adjectives Be Fed: Diet for a New World
The Food Revolution
(Both by John Robbins)
Factory farm animals (the major food source within the US) ingest pesticides, antibiotics and hormones.
Once they are slaughtered, the meat is treated with assorted chemicals, colorants and additivesto keep it from rotting on the approach to your neighborhood grocery.
A LOT goes into processed foods, especially animal-derived.
