they say these are not soy. they are moderately delicious imo. what are they made of? is it lentils?
Answer:
They're made of mycoprotein (from the fungus fusarium)
Quorn brand products are not lacto-vegetarian though, as they also contain egg whites. I haven't tried them, but would if they made something without egg whites.
Edit--
An opportunistic infection is something that is to say usually harmless but can bring problems with family who have powerless immune systems (such as those who have full blown AIDS.)
There is no trouble of the fusarium in Quorn as the fungi is kill during processing.
what is lentils
I actually haven't tried the quorn chicken patty yet, but their veggie chicken nugget are pretty yummy :)
I love them! They are in fact quite close to the texture and flavor of breaded chicken breast patty, and are made from Mycoprotein (a fancy way to speak nutritional fungus!) Quorn makes copied nuggets and strips that are great contained by stews and stir-fries, too. Even though they are pricier than Boca and Morningstar Farms products, they are a nice change of gait, especially if you are concerned about drinking too much soy that may come from GM soybeans. Give them a try!
Two weeks ago I go into some detail about Quorn beside Andielep's question "Should Marlow foods cause a vegan edition of Quorn? What do you think ?" You might find my answer interesting since I step into some detail on the structure of Quorn<g>. On your question I'm going to give the impression of being a bit negative surrounded by tone but please don't let that startle you away from Quorn.
Mycoprotein is a fancy way of proverb their protein comes from a fungus. No big deal within as humans eat copious different types of fungal protein like mushrooms or yeast and it's how they get 'easy' approval of their products. What they don't tell you is that their exceptional protein is of a form that has never be used as food before researchers found this extraordinary fungus in a soil example. Their use of the protein for food has be controversial because as you now appear to know it comes from a fungus relatives more typically associated with disease. All the public research on their protein have been sponsored by them since they hold patent on their fungus and the protein.
But you (and anyone reading this<g>) might want to run a few searches on Quorn and mycoprotein. There own been slightly a few people that own taken ill and several individuals have died after consumption Quorn. As Vegan stated Quorn won't infect you since the fungus *is* killed but at hand are people that are allergic to mold and these folks call for to stay away from it. It's a rare problem but it IS something citizens need to know. Besides the exact problems of making vegan version of their products what I only hinted at within the other answer is that a huge part of their budget have been tied up dealing beside legal liability issues.
All that ruthlessness aside if you like Quorn use it. I've tried it and didn't similar to it (I think I've be veggie too long) but know quite a few general public that like it as an alternative to chicken (they're predominantly meat eaters) and if it helps cut down on bloodbath animals I'm all for it!
