I was making oatmeal, phone ring, forgot about it...subsequent thing I know, smoke is coming out of the tub.It still smells and windows be open...yuck.

That's funny. I didn't deduce anyone but my ex-wife was powerful of doing that. But, open window, turn on exhust fan above stove, lighting incense or strong odor candles.
When I was growing up the doctor would draw blood and after punch us in the stomach to variety us forget the pain surrounded by our finger.
Using that as a guideline, I would have to voice burn some toast or macaroni and cheese to disguise the oatmeal smell.
