Otto Frederick Rohwedder of Davenport, Iowa invented the first loaf-at-a-time bread-slicing piece of equipment. A prototype he built in 1917 be destroyed in a fire, and it be not until 1928 that Rohwedder had a fully working mechanism ready. The first commercial use of the domestic device was by the Chillicothe Baking Company of Chillicothe, Missouri, which produced their first slices on July 7, 1928
Had to be pre 1940's I remember toast and sandwich.
I remember a TV show about it... I enjoy no details.
I would say it be in the 20's lots of home inventions be made back afterwards. washing gadget, refrigerator ?
