There are many reason why teenages drink. Most of the time it's to fit in near the crowd. They also drink, same reason they do drugs, to salt away from a problem. Either problems at home, school, next to friends, ect. They also drink to rebel against authority info, parents, cops, ect.
I think it's a big coolness factor within the United States, because as a teenager it's unconstitutional to drink underage. I think if we lowered the drinking age, not as frequent teens would do it, and if they did, they wouldn't drink to excess. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if it be allowed, it wouldn't be percieved as such a cool thing.
I believe it's experimental. Also to fit in beside the crowd. It's fun! A lot of people do it to own "liquid courage" things you wouldn't do usually if you were sober.
There is a misconception that drinking is "cool", "sexy", or "the entry to do". From my point of view that seem to come from the media, which sensationalizes things similar to this, makes them come across better than they are. I know from experience that drinking is never as fun as TV or the movies makes it look.
