I have hear rumors that Spices on the ingredients list are not spices at adjectives. Is spices a broad term used by the FDA to allow unknown venomous and addictive ingredients into our food?Does the FDA really protect us the consumer's or are they just putting money into the pocket's of big business?
Answer:
That's funny, I've wondered this myself. The FDA is a US administration agency. I've heard they adopt funding from companies for things other than research. That make me nervous. Recently, for example, the FDA have approved an antibiotic being injected into meat because the drug company give them money. This is very unsafe because it can cause relatives to build immunity to this antibiotic, which may be needed for robustness problems later.
As for the "Spices" on an product's lable, I am not sure. I've see (rarely) spices listed separately on lables beforehand, so i'm not sure.
The FDA does not enumerate herbs and spicies specifically because they just contribute flavor to the final product; they have no nutritional utility ... and that is what the FDA is most concerned next to when it comes to labeling.
The spices are not scheduled so you can not duplicate something just by knowing the ingredients.
