i would think you'd hold to go to Carlisle for something similar to that... not sure of many specialist places contained by Cumbria for things like that... and even next i'm not sure you'd have much luck next to galangal... you might need to turn to Preston!
I can find them surrounded by my local Tesco, give yours a look within.

Sainsbury's tends to be pretty flawless for these types of things, I made a thai curry recently and manage to get adjectives the ingredients from there. I'm assuming you do hold a Sainsbury's there!?

If you resembling shopping on-line try www.spiceworld.uk.com. They are absolutely brilliant for herb, spices and all sorts of related things.
They account both galangal and kaffir lime leaves.
Try the biggest supermarket.
If you can't find them, you can other improvise.
Galingal is similar to ginger and lime leaves - I'd try grated zest of a citrus fruit or perhaps some lemon liquid.
I first came across galingal contained by a seventeenth century recipe. I'm sure the writer would have used somthing else if her usual spice be unavailable.
Not sure what West Cumbria is like, but Devon's a bit rural too.
If you can find (and i appologies for any offence) an ethnic minority newsagent they recurrently stock ingredients for their food.
For example there's a shop in my (reasonably large) town, the owner is a shik (from Pakistan i think) and I know he would own these in.
Its where on earth i go to find my spices as well. Big oodles at good prices.
Sorry its with the sole purpose general warning, but find the corner shop and thats where you will find ingredients close to the lime leaves and 'exotic' spices.
