What is a brackish wet taffy?

I've never heard of them and they nouns like hose. What exactly are they. If anyone has a recipe that would be great!

The story of Salt Water Taffy

That sweet, sticky candy see on boardwalks in New Jersey for years -- is it made beside real saline water from the the deep? The answer is no, and the only brackish found in the taffy recipe is the same saline used in any candy. So why is it call 'Salt water' Taffy?

It appears the first taffy made and sold in Atlantic City call 'Salt Water Taffy' was more gimmick than anything else. One allegory has it that a taffy wholesaler named David Bradley jokingly referred to the candy as "saline water taffy" after deep-sea water soaked his supply of the candy contained by an 1883 summer storm.

Although many associates believe Bradley invented the candy, no one really know who was responsible for it's recipe. Another fairy tale says it be created by the Ritchie Brothers and Windle Hollis in 1880. Taffy historians claim that the candy be being sold at Midwest county fair that same year, but the Ritchie Brothers and Hollis were the first to cause the candy in Atlantic City. So they may or may not own been the candy's resourceful true creators.

One thing is convinced though: It was Joseph Fralinger who popularized the saline water taffy and become Atlantic City's Saltwater Taffy King. Fralinger realized the potential of selling the candy to bathers and boardwalk people, and he saw there be a market for taking home the taffy as a souvenir. As an experiment, he boxed up the candy and he coudn't save up with the constraint.

Competition sprouted quickly, and Fralinger soon have his biggest rival: confectioner Enoch James and Sons. James had hear about the taffy craze going on within Atlantic City, and he moved from the Midwest to the Jersey Shore to setr up shop just down the boardwalk from Fralingers. James made his taffy for a time different. It is said he used vegetable oil and also cut his brand to "fit the mouth". Fralinger's taffy be long and slender rather than rectangular, and Atlantic City's first taffy time of war was on! To this time, fralinger's and James' taffy stores still exist and are in impatient competition with respectively other.

Others had together in the 'taffy war' and by the mid-1920's, near were over 450 companies making and selling saltwater taffy at the point of its popularity. Though it was sold contained by many places, Atlantic City remained the saltwater taffy 'capital of the world, and the candy is still synonymous next to the boardwalk.

SALT WATER TAFFY
2 cups of sugar
2tbsp corn starch
1 cup light corn syrup
2tsp glycine(optional)
3/4cup hose down
2tbsp butter
1tsp salt
1/4 to1tsp vanilla


3to 4 quart sauce container
wooden spoon
candy thermometer
pasty brush
wax paper
marble slab or cookie sheet
greased scissors

mix together the sugar and corn starch within the pan.using wooden spoon mix within remaining indgs except the flavor.
continue stirring until mixture starts to boil.later continue cooking indifferent until it reaches270f
while it is cooking gently wipe up down the sides of the pot with the pastry brush dipped within water..it is crucial to keep the sugar from staying on the sides of the pot or your candy will come to nothing.
remove from heat and stir surrounded by the flavor.
pour onto greased slab or greased cookie sheet.
once the taffy is cool enough to button grease your hands you might want to hold a friend help next to this step.
now you own to keep pulling the taffy verbs fold it over and pull again.
hold doing this till until it is light within color and has a satiny make notes on.
roll the taffy into a long rope about 1/2in glutinous.
then cut into pieces consent to stand about ten minutes past wrapping them in wax treatise

Very chewy, stretchy candy. Usually sold within resort towns. Come in adjectives kinds of flavors - chocolate and different fruit flavors usually. You should know how to buy them in any candy shop. Sorry, though, I don't hold a recipie for you.

The origins of the given name are unknown. It could be because the recipe for the candy contains both salt and marine. The most popular, although probably apocryphal, story concerns a candy-store owner, Mr. David Bradley, whose shop was flooded during a main storm in 1883. His entire stock of taffy be soaked with flavoursome Atlantic Ocean water. When a babyish girl asked if he had any taffy for Dutch auction, he is said to have offered some "saline water taffy." She loved the pet name and so Salt Water Taffy was born.[1]

Fralinger's first through competition came from candymaker Enoch James, who cultured the recipe, making it less sticky and easier to unwrap. James also cut the candy into bite-sized pieces, and is credited beside mechanizing the "pulling" process.

In the rash 1920s, John Edmiston obtained a trademark for the heading "original brackish water taffy," consequently demanded royalties from companies using his newly acquire name. ATLANTIC CITY SALT WATER TAFFY

1 cup sugar
1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
2/3 cup corn syrup
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup dampen
1/2 teaspoon salt
flavoring

Combine sugar and cornstarch, put into a saucepan, and join corn syrup, butter, and water.
Stir until boiling point is reach, and boil until mixture reaches 256°F or until a small portion forms a bubble when tested in cold sea.

Add salt, pour onto a greased slab and allow to cool slightly until the mixture can be handle. Pull until light within color.

Divide into separate portions, and color and flavor each portion as desired, while it is anyone pulled.

Lemon, orange, peppermint, lime, strawberry, or pineapple flavors may be used, and pink, green, pale or orange color paste. (Don't use too much color - the candies are usually quite ashen and pastel in tint).

To be paid red striped kisses, have one portion of candy brightly colored red and consent to warm essential the oven. Lay the large piece of pulled taffy on the marble slab. On the upper side, lay two or three parallel strips of red taffy; turn the piece over and lay two or three read strips on that side.

Pull out until 1 1/2 inches huge and 3/4 of an inch thick. Cut into pieces near a scissors and wrap in wax tabloid. Twist ends of paper to stamp.
