Poi alone is bland because it was used as a starch (like rice or pasta) surrounded by old days Hawaii so it's intended to be eaten near salty meat or veggies. There is another scrummy way to chomp through poi that my grandma used to make for me. It's call a Poi Cocktail (don't know why because there is no alcohol?). Basically you embezzle poi (it will be sort of crumbly in the bag), mix it beside whole milk until it is gluey & creamy to the texture that you desire and then newly stir in sugar to fondness. It's very yummy, like pudding or a milkshake. I brand name mine to the texture that I can eat next to a spoon.
In So. Ca, there is a Hawaiian/Japanese souk in Torrance that flies contained by poi every week direct from Hawaii. It's called Marukai. There are several locations but just the Torrance one carries poi (to my knowledge) as that location caters to a Hawaiian population and have several isles dedicated to Hawaiian food. It's a bias only bazaar (you can still go into browse w/o a devotion, but you won't be able to buy) but it's just about $10 annually, and it's glorious quality items. The Torrance location is also big ample that they sell furniture and household items.
