Depending upon how far the island is from civilization, choosing a boat might mean dying a sunburned and dry death at deep-sea. Hmmm..think I'll nick my chances on the island!

That's funny I never thought about that. I guess it's because ancestors just automatically chew over that a boat isn't an option. And because usually a deserted islands give people the theory of escaping all of the sunshine to day stress and they would fairly be on an island.
