My niece wants to own a Japanese/Asian birthday party. We necessitate ideas! We hold chop sticks and fortune cookies. Any ideas you hold would be great. She's going to be 8.
Answers:
thats very cool
anyhow:
-asian food, conspicuously (make sure u sample the food since u decide to include it though)
-asian inherited film? something similar to kung fu hustle, although it might be a lil bit violent for an 8-year ancient
-red lanterns
-japanese kites (requires an outdoor, breezy picnic obviously)
-toy nunchakus or weapons for the boys (and girls?)
-oragami (i evolve to be really good... but excuse my ego)... they enunciate that 1000 cranes made would grant you a craving (but since i dont think every guest is interesting within making cranes, let alone a thousand)... perchance a couple made would be good luck for ur niece
anyhow, well-mannered luck planning it... just a restraining, arts and crafts may not be for everyone (although games like chinese checkers or anything might be all right), considering the attention spans of adolescents
hold fun!
Gotta have them big, big drums. And a gong. Kids love gong. And maybe six or seven tuba players. Drums 'n gong 'n tubas.
Get a kimono for her.If you cant, get a pretty silk bathing robe and own her tied up in a bun and secured beside chopsticks.Apply red lipstick on her lips and cheeks.Sushis and yakitoris are definately required.Have her guests dressed up contained by pretty silk clothings and you could have a face-painting(like Geishas) for adjectives the guests b4 they enter the house;>Get a white rattan chair approaching a thrown and decorate next to red ribbons...play japanese music...get her involve surrounded by the planning. It would make a undamaged lot of difference especially to her!!
I just go to a Asian-inspired nightclub in Vegas and they have party favors that I brought home for my kids. A woman carried around a tray of origami cranes that she have made. A man painted your message in Japanese characters onto a wicker fan. Your 8-year-old's friends will love these and they can do them themselves.
I chew over the kids would enjoy making their own sushi rolls. You can stick near the traditional ingredients of rice, vegetables, and raw fish, or you could mix things up and clear "dessert sushi." I imagine that kids would love these sugary treats and they look flowing enough for them to put together, with fully fledged supervision of course.
Here are a couple links near recipes for dessert sushi:

You could also show a Japanese animation film and foot out "Hello Kitty" party favors.
Hope the kids hold fun!
a kimono would be a neat model and for food think rice rice rice and egg is also a pious idea
I'm worried that if you're not in fact Japanese/Asian, you may risk missing the boat on the whole 'cultural sensitivity' piece. I'd shy away from using Japanese or "Asian" (hard to define what exactly that would be) as a cultural ornament...I think it would be difficult for you to do the cultural traditions equality and respect, unless you're more familiar next to them (or have a friend who can help). So, perchance at least include a map of Japan/Asia, and be capable of reference what the traditional symbols and clothing you're using, to the time, location and meaning/context.
Decorate beside paper cranes and rag lanterns, newspaper fold up fans cause great favors.
