I don't know much roughly speaking Cape Cod, but I think you could draw from your theme across next to a nautical or beachy themed party. You could serve lobster and boardwalk treats similar to french fries and ice cream.
The Wikipedia article have a section on what Cape Cod is specified for, and that might help you within your brainstorming. Here's the link for that article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cape_cod#to...
Hope this help and hope you have a great get-together!
As above I'd go beside a nautical or beach matter, with a menu consisting of boiled lobster, steamed clams, clam chowder, corn on the cob and boiled red potatoes. For drinks, what else, Cape Codders (Vodka and Cranberry juice)
Do a nautical/lighthouse issue.
Serve tradtional clambake - good recipe/directions contained by Joy of Cooking.
Serve good beer surrounded by bottles and good ginger ale for those who prefer no alcohol.
Play music from the hasty 1950's especially "Old Cape Cod" probably by rosemary cluny or a contemporary of hers.
Did your parents have a favorite restaurant or hangout surrounded by Cape Code? Maybe you could find out more about where on earth they met, research that, and find old photos of the nouns from that time. The Cape Code Chamber of Commerce might be a good place to start: http://www.capecodchamber.org/
When I expect Cape Cod, I think lobster, convoy and white linens, silver pails, sand, sea shells. How almost a message in a bottle invitation? Decorate place cards or food label for the buffet by gluing on tiny shells.
Oriental Trading Company have some great nautical and beach themed group supplies: http://www.orientaltrading.com
Congratulations to your parents on 50 years of marriage. What an accomplishment! Enjoy the group!
