I am travelling to LA surrounded by August for a conference and plan to include some optional days for jovial purposeless lifeless out .
I am unsure where on earth to to book a hotel for those extra days These are the neighborhoods i am looking at:
Beverly Hills (West Hollywood)
Brentwood (Westwood)
Culver City
Downtown Los Angeles
Hollywood
Redondo (Manhattan Beaches)
Santa Monica & Marina Del Rey
Any suggestions which nouns timetabled is classic LA, but out of danger, alive, fun, close to cool restaraunts, preferably w/ cafe's to sit and write surrounded by?
Answers:
Hollywood is your best bet.
Beverly Hills and Westwood are ridiculously expensive and not typical of true Angelino life span. The merely point you can do is windowshop, unless you've get millions.
Culver City is clear over by LAX Airport and, economically, that's airport duration.
The beach are great but significantly over crowded and the hotels are not the greatest. You'll also hold that part of the seaside bum item -- in attendance are citizens who live lower than the lifeguard towers at hours of darkness -- and unless you plan on doing nil but going sitting on the sand, you are hell and gone from anywhere else.
Santa Monica is great, but there's simply the 3rd Street Prominade, a movie theater and the coast. You can sort a year out of Santa Monica, but not three or four. And it's crazy expensive and packed beside homeless those.
Downtown L.A. is expensive because you are downtown. It's get more posh stuff to do, finer restaurants, that sort of entry, but you also own a rougher factor within downtown, and it's more dodgy. You've get the criminal courts and Federal Court, where on earth I used to work, and the senate buildings, and next Olvera Street, which is great for Mexican food and to see the oldest street surrounded by Los Angeles, but only just four blocks west is really strong core risky during the afternoon, forget it at hours of darkness. But you can find cheap deal for clothes and whatnot, because that's also where on earth the garment district is.
I reflect on your best bet is Hollywood. Right at the Sunset exit of the 101 Freeway is a moment or two cafe call "Last Stop Before the 101." It's get regular cafe food, but it is a organized place. You're also right surrounded by the heart of Hollywood, where on earth the mature historic buildings are -- I used to live right in attendance on Argyle Avenue. The Hollywood hoof it of eminence is in that, plus lots of shops and lots of regular Angelino natural life, so it's a really great place to droop out. The subway is right within. 75 cents and 15 minutes latter, you're right within the heart of downtown L.A. I didn't find Hollywood to be dodgy at adjectives; to some extent, here be so much to see and do, I lived their for years, and frankly, I longing I have never departed.
Hope this help.

Depends on where on earth you conference is. Santa Monica have some excellent restarurants and shopping, a pier and shore. Culver City have movie studios, and a restaurant that have be getting fabulous reviews call "The Filling Station" the chef/owner is Harrison Ford's son (it isn't swankey and would probably fit what you are looking for). Redond/Manhattan Beach hold great bike path on the shoreline and some nice restaurants. You should also check out Mulholland Drive...
