My friend is throwing a cocktail party at her apartment for her birthday and is not sure what we could do for entertainment (besides drink..lol)..what do folks do at cocktail parties??

The first answer is correct. Besides situation music, people will be expecting zilch more than drinks, hors'doeuvres and conversation. If you start throwing in games and such, it's more of a birthday bash than a cocktail party.
I would just own some music playing in the surroundings. People should be able to speak with out have to yell. I hold not been to a cocktail jamboree that really had any type of entertainment.

Besides the above mentioned, I make these cool 'caramel apples' appetizers.
1. Melt caramel
2. dip massive globe grapes contained by the caramel
3. roll in crushed pecans
Use toothpicks after step 1.

One piece that always add a great element to any Cocktail event is live music. I'm talking roughly rocking out, but something very simple. Not sure what type of music your friend is into, but since it's a cocktail group, you may want to keep the music low switch. My suggestion is to contact your local college. Get in touch beside the music dept and see if you can get the name and numbers of two or three students who play strings and have a mini orchastra that plays Jazz or Classical. Since it's an apartment, they can set up surrounded by a corner and most of the time even take requests. The price is dirt cheap and it really add a sophisticated element to the body.
I agree beside everyone else, cocktail parties are not really fundamentally entertaining. Generally they are for mingling, making business contacts, etc. I think a better impression is to make more interactive food and drink experiences near a theme. I own had an Asian inspired coctail participant that was a hit.
The first article I coordinated was the food. I have chicken lettuce wraps. The guests need to assemble them by themselves, but it encourage people to try different things and to speak while they are making them. I also made beef sticks and kept a small electric grill out. I marinated the beef sticks, but citizens did have to cook them on the small grill. I didn't do this beside the chicken or shrimp which I seasoned with chinese 5 spice, but I did hold a ginger, mustard and peanut dipping sauces for. I really wanted to own a deep fryer or something equivalent near tempura veggies, but children attended the event, and hot oil and children don't really mix. For the drinks, I would sugges stir with a unfinished mix of rum and ginger beer. From here people can affix all types of fresh garnish from fresh ginger to Asian fruits.
Usually a mix of music is played, the point of a cocktail entertainment is to allow guests to migle and have conversations minus having to cry over the music.
People chitchat and mingle. Just have some low music on surrounded by the background.
