Afterall the main point is to hold a good time near your friends so it shouldn't matter what they wear. Of course man sensitive to the theme would be nice on your guests fragment.

It's not improper to request that your guests dress up. Just consent to them know that it is optional. I'm sure most of you guests would not want to be gone out anyway and would like to know what to wear. Good Luck!

You know that the more ancestors participate the more fun it will be. Call some of the guests up earlier the party and assure them that other guests (including yourself) will be dressing the cut so that they are assured that they wont be the only one that shows up within costume. Offer ideas for what they can wear.
My extra tip is this: Have some costume elements available for the family that don't come dressed for the party. Buy some cowboy hat from a party store.
I threw my boyfriend an 80's themed birthday event and I had lots of hot pink and lime green paraphernalia like sunglasses within a basket by the door. It be a smashing success!
