I of late got done throwing one for my son and it be lots of fun. Here are some of the things I did.
I took dark blue posterboard and painted a giant Death star on it. The children afterwards played pin the blast on the death star! Of course they have to use the force not their eyes! I used neon sticky notes for the blasts!
We have lots of black red and yellow balloon since Darth Vader is my sons favorite character and those colors progress well.
For the cake I took cupcakes and placed them on the table within two long lines that crossed near the top. Think of an upside down V next to the lines passing the vertex a moment or two. These were table lamp sabers. I frosted the bottom 3 or 4 cupcakes gray and black and the rest were frosted red and green. It looked resembling Darth Vader's and Luke's light sabers crossed contained by battle. I truly used that new "table lamp and fluffy" frosting and piped big lines of frosting that connected the cupcakes to eachother, of course I have to color the frosting myself. Of course you have to do this after decorate the table which is a pain.
I go to Border's and got a John Williams Boston Pop's compact disc that featured Star Wars Music. It played within the back ground during the knees-up and was used for Musical chairs.
We also blew bubbles it be funny to watch the children own bubble battles next to eachother. Water guns could also be fun, if you're not opposed to that sort of item and you know the other parents well.
If you purchase a pinata you could use a toy wispy saber to beat on it, especially it it's Darth Vader.
If you preference to serve a meal I would recommend "Light Saber Dogs" served beside red (the darkside) ketchup or Green (the force) ketchup. With perhaps some popcorn asteroids on the side. With maybe some dill chip pickles that are Death Star Pickles.

You could product a simple round pinata and have it resemble the Death Star. Before the gathering make some bedside light sabers with foam pipe insulation or skinny swimming "noodles". Wrap 4-6 inches from the bring to a close with colored electrical cassette to make a bar. One red, one black, blue etc. To play, divide the kids into teams to run through a challenge course. Each troop will get one "Light Saber". Create tasks for respectively potential Jedi to accomplish (not too hard) with the flimsy saber in appendage. For example: Hit ping pong balls near the light saber, Crawl below a chair tunnel, shift down a slide, Roll under a tarp
Pop bubbles near the light saber. Purchase small treats or gifts and wrap them within aluminum foil. Hide them in a sandbox, around the house or within the yard. Make sandwiches and cut them to resemble fingers and nickname them alien fingers or say that they are Luke and Darth's fingers (there hand were cut rotten in the movies) Hope this help to get your juice flowing.
If you enjoy a wal-mart near you, they should pass these really cool Darth Vader Masks in their bakery. They put them on cupcake cake and large cake. They are really cool. Those could be some favors you could use. I would save adjectives the toilet paper rolls you could and as an movement let the kids engineer Light Sabers. Ummm for the table cloths don't buy the expensive star wars tablecloth. Just make your own, lug some cheap white sheets and dye them orange first, later spray some red on them for a really cool fire effect and some really neat tablecloth. For your cake try to have it professionally done unless you own the tools to do it. An airbrush gun in this bag, is your best friend for the cake. You can do lots of Star Wars effects with an airbrush. I hope this help.
