I am getting married in Jamaica and consequently the following week we are having a reception at home, but we want it hugely casual...more similar to a party. Most carnival themes suggest a luau...tiki mask and such. Is that strictly Hawaiian? Should I search harder for Caribbean-themed event items? Or throw caution to the curl and have a Jamaican marriage and then a Hawaiian knees-up back home?
I want to focus on flowers, seaside, sand, water....FUN! Please support!
Answer:
just because you are within Jamaica does not mean you cant own an Hawaii theme for you f¨ēte come on girl its your wedding do what produce you happy polite luck and have fun Hun
I don't think a Luau is specific to Hawaii. I enjoy been to a few Samoan Luaus within my life :)
If you are concerned, purely call it an "island party" or something similar. Have a blast, Jamaica sounds amazing!!
Luaus are Hawaiian or Polynesian, but you can use pretty much same thing for a Caribbean bash, like flower, and sand themed things and cocktails, lots of fruits, candles and fire lanterns, but not the tikis it have nothing to do beside the Caribbean. Good Luck and Congratulations!!
Hawaiians are of Samoan wearing clothes, Pacific islanders, If you want Caribbean, go near reggae, straw hats, and Voodoo dolls. Serve Rum and Red beer. Fish fired contained by coconut oil and a mango salad instead of the luau pig and poi. Since Jamaica be last a British colony, be in motion with a pirate matter or a Spanish Cuban/Puerto Rico feel. Oh and don't forget the Cuban cigars as a court alternative to what they really smoke in Jamaica.
I think you are putting too much stress on yourself. Just bid your party a " tropical party" and stop worrying. No one will pay envelope any attention, as long as you don't have hula dancers. Look at thesis sites for some help.
