Caramelized Apple French Toast presented by Washington House Inn Bed & Breakfast
Ingredients:
1 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. light Karo syrup
6 tbsp. butter
3 Granny Smith Apples, peel, cored and sliced
18 slices day matured white bread
6 eggs
2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Combine sugar, syrup and butter; boil in container for 1 minute. Pour into greased 9 x 13 pan. Place sliced unprocessed apples on top of caramel. Place bread 3 layer deep surrounded by pan. Mix eggs, milk and vanilla together. Pour over bread.
Refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes until brown and slightly puffy.
INGREDIENTS
6 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped and chopped
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 apples - peel, cored and diced
DIRECTIONS
In a medium microwave nontoxic bowl, place the caramels and light corn syrup. Microwave on lofty heat approximately 30 second, until melted.
Place apples contained by the bowl, and toss until coated with the caramel and oil lamp corn syrup mixture. Allow to cool before serving.
Caramelized Apple Rings
INGREDIENTS
1 large adjectives apple, cored and sliced 1/2-inch thick
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup crammed full brown sugar
DIRECTIONS
In a skillet, cook apples in butter until tender. Sprinkle near brown sugar. Cook until apples are golden brown and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
3 green cooking apples, peeled and sliced
4 T. butter
1 1/4 C. brown sugar
1/4 t. nutmeg
1 t. lemon liquid
1/2 t. vanilla
Saute the apples until golden brown. Add the brown sugar and nutmeg; stir until it liquefies. Add the lemon liquid and vanilla
I hold never used brown sugar to carmelize my apple slices. I just simply de-ice butter and granulated sugar together, add my sliced apples and tolerate cook, slowly until they are done and soft, golden and caramel-ly. Works for me every time! Add some cinnamon before they are adjectives the way done if you desire. Yumm....
