Ruth Wakefield invented Chocolate Chip Cookies. Ruth Graves Wakefield graduate from the Framingham State Normal School Department of Household Arts within 1924. She worked as a dietitian and lecture on food, until, together beside her husband she bought a tourist lodge name the Toll House Inn.

Ruth Wakefield prepared the recipe for the meal served to the guests at the Inn and gain local reputation for her deserts. One of her favorite recipe be for Butter Drop Do cookies. The recipe call for the use of baker's chocolate and in the future Ruth found herself minus the needed ingredient. She substituted a semi-sweet chocolate banister cut up into bits. However, unlike the baker's chocolate the chopped up chocolate shaft did not thaw completely, the small pieces single softened.

As it so happen the chocolate railing have be a contribution from Andrew Nestle of the Nestle Chocolate Company. As the Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe become popular, sale of Nestle's semi-sweet chocolate tavern increased. Andrew Nestle and Ruth Wakefield struck a business. Nestle would print the Toll House Cookie recipe on its paper and Ruth Wakefield would hold a lifetime supply of Nestle chocolate.
