The recipe that I have say to cook for an hour @ 350F. I want to put the loaf into the oven before I will for work and have it cook until I acquire home 5 hours later. I don't enjoy a slow cooker (crockpot).

you cant use your oven as a slow cooker, the meatloaf would dry out and burn, and perhaps even shut in the oven on fire, if you make tracks it for 5 hours,,,,, if you turned it low enough for that not to start,,,,, say melt or 100 degrees, the meat contained by the middle would not be cooking, just getting melt and building bacteria
you can pop it within the oven at 400 for 45 minutes,,,, or else product mini meatloaves, just shape out several small loaves,,,,, and cook for 30 minutes at 350
slow cookers are not expensive, around 20 or 30 dollars ,,,,, they are great and you can take the oval ones which hold a roast or meatloaf,,,,,,,,, for the future,
so try the minimeatloaves, they are cute and fun,,,,,,,
maybe you should ask your mother, they other know best, I think
You will dry it out completely if you roast it for five hours. The reason it works surrounded by a slow-cooker is that you have a small confined space and the steam falls rear legs down into the pot and keeps it moist. In an oven, even if you cover the tub with foil, too much of the steam would release, disappearing you with a incredibly dry piece of meat.
That's not a perfect idea.
First near is a minimum at which you should cook meat that is going to be fully cooked.
Second you should NEVER take off your oven on and leave the house.
Get a slow cooker
don't know try it on say 100cwith aluminium foil over it and cant burn at that heat and put it in a bains- marie
I'm a UPS driver. So I usually just bring the loaf near me and leave it on the dashboard of the truck. You know, once I almost deliver it by accident.
haha....noooooo....don't do that....go buy a crockpot...they are cheap
Although I would never leave my oven on when I'm out of the house you could try cooking it at 200f which I beleive is the lowest temp to cook meat, but don't quote me on that. When ever I cook a pork roast or roast beef thats the temp I use to catch the meat tender.
Do you not own an automatic oven that you can set to turn on at a time to have the loaf cooked by the time you draw from home?
