i am cooking dinner and have a steamer that i use and only just need to know if i can steam them both together or do i enjoy to boil one as i will be mashing them together

You can steam themogether. Make sure the pieces are of similar size and shape so they will procure done together.
If you're going to pulp them, then it doesn't event if one is overcooked. But turnip are longer to cook than carrots.
