Pesto is a basil base mix...use pesto from deli section, never use factory bottled pesto..it have a totally different taste.

I MAKE THIS , 1 CLOVE OF GARLIC,OLIVEOIL,SALT,A PINCH OF RED PEPPER FLAKES, ,BALSAMIC VINEGAR, A SPLASH, AND ABOUT 4 BASIL LEAVESPUT IN BLENDER,AND ADD TO PASTA WHEN HOT, NAMASTE
I like a lemon vinaigrette for pasta salad. It's the liquid of two lemons, the zest of one, a spoonful of garlic, 1/3 cup of olive oil, a big pinch of dried oregano, and a pinch of saline and pepper.
When I first started making pasta salad, I used Kraft low-fat Italian Parmesan dressing. I don't know if they make that anymore, but if you can find it, it's biddable!
Oil and vinegar or Italian come to mind right away. If you have the ingredients only just about any tangy type of vinaigrette will work.
I usually newly use Ricotta cheese and a little bit of mayo next to minced onion and celery, shredded carrot, salt, celery saline, and pepper. Add a little paprika on top for color and flavor. Yummy :)
For catering events near pasta salad we do something very simple we use 4 parts Italian dressing to one bit mayonnaise you still get the tang from the dressing plus a creaminess from the mayonnaise
