1/2 cup busy brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
3/4 cup milk
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
3/4 cup finely crushed saltine crumbs

Preheat oven to 350 degree.
Lightly grease a 5x9 inch loaf pan.
Press the brown sugar surrounded by the bottom of the prepared loaf pan and spread the ketchup over the sugar.
In a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly adjectives remaining ingredients and shape into a loaf.
Place on top of the ketchup.
Bake surrounded by preheated oven for 1 hour or until juices are clear.

1 1/4 hours 5 min prep

2-2 1/2 lbs ground chuck
1 roomy egg
1 cup finely chopped onions (, or you can use 2-3 Tblp dried onion flakes if the kids object to in reality seeing the onion)
1 cup milk
3 pieces bread, crumbed in food processor
1 teaspoon brackish
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/3-1/2 cup Heinz Chili Sauce (NO SUBSTITUTION on this ingredient)
Topping
1/2 cup catsup
1/2 cup shredded American cheese or mild cheddar cheese or monterey jack cheese

Mix ground chuck with breadcrumbs.
(extra lean works economically too).
Add salt,pepper and egg.
Mixing near you hands very soon, add the Heinz Chili Sauce and the milk.
Seperate the mixture surrounded by half and form 2 loaves.
They will both fit comfortably contained by a 13" by 9" pan.
Mix the topping together and spread on the top and the sides of the loaves.
Cook at 375 for one hour or 400 for 45 minutes.
Check for firmness.
Let rest for ten minutes until that time cutting.
Tips---------.
If you hold stale bread you can lay 2 slices under respectively loaf and it will soak up the grease so your meatloaf is a bit leaner upon serving.
Also, you can use the Chili Sauce on top of the meatloaf instead of catsup.
This make it spicier but my mother never did this because it would have given away her"Secret Ingredient" -- and the kids probably will approaching it better with catsup on top.
Enjoy!

I won't give an account you the whole recipe, but I do use partly a cup of minute rice, and a half a cup of ground up saltine crackers, and a partly a cup of ketchup. The secret after you mold it into a loaf is, put it surrounded by a slightly larger Pyrex pan, and incorporate about a partially cup of water around the loaf. It will come out markedly moist. Potatoes and carrots within the water. Top it next to ketchup and sliced bell peppers within one quarter inch thick circles beforehand baking.
mix contained by a bowl:

* 2 lb turkey ground round (or beef ground round but the turkey is lighter, healthier, smaller quantity fat and a nice, frothy flavour)
* 3 big handfuls of cheeze-its (put in a ziploc pouch and smash up to small pieces - but not breadcrumb sized). If you don't have cheezeits you can use wheaties or cornflakes but this result contained by a different texture and consistency meatloaf
* 2 eggs
* 1 small can peas
* 1 medium sized can crushed tomatoes
* 1 small can tomato stick
* Add Italian flavoured breadcrumbs until consistancy is not too wet, not too dry - merely nice, moist and you can shape it with your paw.
* small handful dried onion flakes

Form a loaf shape on a baking tray lined beside tinfoil and sprayed with Pam (nonstick spray). Rub top of loaf beside more tomato paste or tomato ketchup if you hold none. Cover with foil loosely (dont tuck beneath tray lip)

Bake 350 oven for about 1hr - afterwards remove foil and let heat for another 15 mins.

I like this recipe because I don't close to to measure things out next to measuring cups etc and this have always be a no-fail recipe for me. And I would never have thought of the cheeze-its but they really do give a great flavour!
