What is real ale incentive i was within london recently and my uncle asked me if i'd drunk much actual ale yet and i said John Smith, he said that's not TRUE ale..I tried god damn it, i tried..
In answer to the first question, it tend to be drunk by older ancestors as the chavvy types prefer larger and the rest seem to drink alot of spirits or girly drinks...sorry for stereotyping but that's how it is where on earth I live!
As for your confusion over ale-type; real ale is the stuff that comes surrounded by glass bottles contained by supermarket (stuff like hobgoblin and pester ale). In the pub just ask them something like which real ales they enjoy and they'd tell you, it's their brief! =P
