Roy Allen introduced root beer to nation in 1919 within Lodi, California where he set up his stand during a nouns honoring returning WWI vets. It be a big hit so he decided he needed a partner to aid him sell this stuff. In 1922, he and Frank Wright combined their initials to label it A&W root beer.
I love this stuff myself (though i rarely drink it since it's soda).

I miss the big barrells too. Always thought they would work resourcefully in carnival.
