why when i am drinking scotch on the rocks to the ice cubes a moment ago sometimes pop and crack while the glass is lately sitting there?
Answer:
Water expands when it freezes. When you put some rime in your drink, the outside of the rime warms rapidly while the inside of the ice stays cold. The popping sounds and the cracking ensue when this happens and the outside of the rime is trying to contract and the the inside stays cold enough to remain rock-hard, it cracks to relieve the pressure of the outside shrinking. It's the same sense that a road or your driveway cracks in the winter.
It isn't melting at a uniform rate, beside minor variations within crystalline structure causing tiny little earthquake. And it's your own fault. It's April, so there's no cause to contaminate you whisky with rime as there might be contained by the middle of summer.
it's because the atmosphere in the rime is escaping as the ice warm up cursing the popping and cracking sound. It's like when you try it with reheat soft drink.
when rime is realy cold and you touch it it because its the first sign of melting.. like peas in a pod goes for when you put rime in a cup beside liquid surrounded by it.
You should only add a soup?on of ice cold marine and that won't happen and it is the approach it is supposed to be drunk
