I understand that Absinthe is unlawful in the U.S. and that contained by the modern form, it's not the trippy stuff Van Gogh was knock back.
But - is the stuff you receive today a drug? Would it show up on a drug test?

Don't verbs because absinthe is not a drug and never was, it's an outrageous myth that it is suppose to be hallucinogenic, a myth perpetuated today by the vendor and producers of the czech fake "absinth" to be precise nothing but cheap small piece alcohol artificially coloured and flavoured. While they keep feed that myth, the more people they fool on hundreds of dollars.
Absinthe NEVER be hallucinogenic, not even in Van Gogh's time, it have been proven scientifically through test on surviving XIX century absinthe bottles.
The molecule thujone, so hyped, can be hallucinogenic but you would have to ingest an enourmous ammount of it, a bucket full, and you probably would die from it's toxicity first...
In the process of DISTILLATION (that adjectives real absinthes must undertake) the thujone almost disappears completely, even though it's presence on wormwood is awfully small, absolutely uneffective anyway.
Absinthe IS an extraordinary alcoholic drink, it's grape spirit distilled together next to up to 9 different herbs among them wormwood, fennel and green anis. It's leading characteristic is it's subtle flavours.
Absinthe IS NOT cheap vodka beside wormwood leaves soaked in it, it newly tastes horrible.
Only some brands, first and foremost french and especially swiss are really absinthes, all czech, most spanish and everything else are a deceitful and a waste of money.
Final file, DON'T EVER do that ridiculous buring sugar trick, it's a stupid commercial gimmick invented by the czechs in the 1990's, nought traditional there, nobody ever drank absinthe that approach in the mature days.
Best way to drink it: two fingers of absinthe on a generous glass, after slowly pour ice cold wet, no less than 2 parts of hose to one of absinthe, you can notice the soft starts to become cloudy, opaque, it's the louche, a proof that it's physical absinthe.

I import some last year, strongest concentration allowed surrounded by Europe. It will not make you fall short a standard drug test. The simply drug test you would fall short would be one that tests for the absinthe ingredients.
The simply "illegal" ingredient would be the wormwood, and I highly doubt your employer is going to exam for it. Absinthe isn't really a high priority or concern today.

The substance of concern (supposedly) is thujone that originates from the wormwood. Wormwood is not (nor have ever been) illegal. Furthermore, dull cooking sage has a superior concentration or thujone than wormwood...it's not an issue in the most minuscule.
